Poetry for a Cause

Amy Ainbinder finished her tacos and approached me the other day to let me know about an interesting project she was working on. Under the name “Take Action Poetry!” she worked with a powerhouse group to put together an international anthology of poetry featuring some of Victoria’s best poets (and being a “destination city”, we have many gifted and well recognized poets here). The purpose of this collection is to raise money for Doctors Without Borders.

She writes in the introduction:

“Maybe we cannot heal the sick, wounded and suffering people as Doctors Without Borders” does, but we owe it to these same people to listen and respond in our own ways to their suffering–to listen and take action in some manner. The generosity of the contributors towards this goal has served as a fire, calling us to its warmth and renewing our spirits. We know that we are not alone in our experiences as the poems in this collection resonate. As poet June Jordan’s words remind us,,  ”I believe that love is the single, true prosperity at any moment”…and we feel enriched as we are all part of this same widening circle (of hope).”

After production costs, all profits are given to Doctors Without Borders.
